New name! New era!

This blog has taken many shapes over the last fifteen years.

I first showed up here in 2010 as ‘About an Acre’, the beginner version of me, documenting how to grow food, care for farm animals, keep plants alive (when you have black thumbs), and make something out of almost nothing. I was soft and curious and naïve then, learning most lessons the only way they stick - the hard way. Trial and error. And I wanted to document all of it because I had ZERO experience in anything farm-related. It’s true!

Here are a few photos from that 2010 era… gah - feels like a lifetime ago.

The baby goat in my arms above is Ellen as a newborn. So hard to believe she is almost SIXTEEN.

By November 2013, the edges got a little more defined, though I didn’t yet know it was just a growth spurt. Thrifting, sewing, fashion magic, and outlaw femininity kicked the door open and helped me rediscover who I was. About an Acre became ‘Frugal Fashionable Farmer’, a mix of dirt-road longing, Goodwill glamour, and Sunday baking. I didn’t have a farm of my own yet, but I was absolutely yearning for one… In the meantime I was really amping up my thrifted fashion posts. Going through all these and getting everything set here at this new blog space has been fun. Here are some photos from the fashion phase that I plan on bringing back in 2026… if I can pull it off as a much older woman :)

Then came April 2014, when I found an old, forgotten homestead down a dirt road in Winterville, Georgia and the universe decided it was mine. A little 30’x30’ farmhouse built in 1910, anchored by an oak tree that had been standing long before the Civil War. (It was so massive and impressive that I had a tree surgeon come assess it, and he estimated it was over 200 years old.)

Take a trip down memory lane here.

Since then, I’ve built an entire life here, and I’ve gained a clarity that only comes from living close to the bone. Ups and downs and all the things in between…

Winterville Wildling wasn’t a planned change. All of my former blog life was tied to an email I no longer use, and I missed the renewal notices for Frugal Fashionable Farmer until it was too late.

Oopsie daisy.

So here we are. Everything from the very beginning is now here.

Winterville Wildling feels appropriate. I’ve hardened and softened in all the right places this past year. I’ve been deeply confused about what the hell I’m doing, and just as guilty of obsessively searching for signs pointing me somewhere else. Turns out, I’m right where I’m supposed to be.

Sturdied by tough lessons and a few stories I legally can’t share, because when people feel threatened by the truth, they make you sign an NDA.

I thrift. I sew. I stack hay like it’s cardio. I have big feelings. And I know exactly who I am.

So in a way, this isn’t a rebrand.

It’s an unmasking.

Welcome to Winterville Wildling.

It’s the same, but different.

Life, land, and the nights out in between.
